UiTM Kuantan - BUKIT SEKILAU & PADANG LALANG

Classes for the Law Students are mostly dekat Bukit Sekilau. There are 2 blocks.

The first block is split into 4 part.

1st part: This is the office. You make payment ke whatever dekat sini. Lecturers punya office pon dekat sini so pandai2 lah visit dorang

2nd part: Kat sini ada library and a computer room thinggy. Library banyak books. Duh. And nak buat research or internet laju or nak carik aircond dekat sini lah tempat dia. Kat atas rumah untuk budak perempuan Law

3rd and 4th part: Rumah for the girls.

Basuh baju?
Oh there are 4 washing machines dekat 3rd and 4th part of the building. You kena bayar RM 2 (shillings) and just pop your clothes in and wait for 50 min. Make sure letak baldi sebelah washing machine incase you lambat amek baju. Some people akan maen campak je baju kita merata-rata. Annoying. So yeah. Baldi! Ingat!

Tempat makan

If you keluar campus je, at the side memang berlambak tempat makan. Memang you will not go hungry and makin tambah lemak. Seriously. Ada banyak gerai2 and some even bukak sampai 4am. Now nama2 gerai we usually call ikot colour table. Like we have kedai putih, kedai tengah, meja merah, murtabak mengkasar, meja kuning, kedai orang, kedai western and blablablabla. If you want a restaurant just cross the street from the campus and theres this restaurant call Kedai Cawan (try nasi ayam dorang) and malam2 pon kadang2 bukak. And kalau mengidam goreng pisang dekat depan campus pon ada or kalau nak try kedai kat belakang pon boleh. pandai2 lah carik. Banyak tempat makan at a walking distance.

Just across the street of our campus memang ada banyak gilaaaaa kedai. Nak cakap apa lah. Sangat lucky! There are loads of restaurant and some really good food if you know how to look. And be nice to the owners and sometimes dorang bagi extra telur or belanja burger or whatever. Anyway dekat depan ada like 3 cybercafes, ada 7-Eleven, and a dobby kalau malas nak basuh baju. And ada Print Houz and CC sebalah Print Houz tu dia provide law notes untuk Sem 1 and Sem 2 from most of the lecturers. Soalan past year sume bagai pon dekat dorang selalunya. So tanya je.

Btw, lupa nak cakap. Kalau siapa yang selalu layan mamak lah. Jalan depan sikit ada dua mamak. Shaz and I forgot the other name. Situ pon okay je makan. And ada this public library thinggy. Dia bagi guna internet for free, ada aircond and ada buku. Its in the corner. Pandai2 lah carik and explore sendiri.

I take my food very seriously.




ECM, East Coast Mall

Now tak budak UiTM Kuantan lah kalau tak lepak sini. ECM ni memang merata2 lah budak2 UiTM. Abes class ke, class cancel ke, takde class ke, wekeend, dating, lepak, takde kerja, jalan2, dinner, makan, breakfast, whatever dekat ECM selalunya. Its a walking distance. 5min flat with no talking. A good 10-15 min walking distance from campus kita. Untuk budak Sekilau kalau you bukak tingkap je, or lepak dekat balcony memang terang berderang boleh nampak ECM. Its sangat sangat dekat. Idk nak explain dekat dia macam mana! Now kat sini memang banyak tempat. Bank, cinema, restaurant, kedai arab, pashminas, bakery, karaoke semua dekat sini. Kalau you mintak Pak Cik Rani (UiTM Van Driver) dia akan charge RM 1 untuk pergi sini dari Sekilau. RM 2 kalau you dari Palang. Around mall ni ada lah building and jalan2 laen. Its split into Malay Town, China Town, India Town. I like to eat so I pretty much have eaten at most of the restaurants around here.
And the stadium and terminal bus also dekat2 area sini jugak. The longer you've been there, semua nampak dekat and jalan kaki je. Tapi awal2 memang banyak naek taxi. SAVE DUET. Most taxi tak kira lah dekat mana akan charge RM 8 -12 jugak. Baek2 dengan some taxi and sometime dorang akan bagi you cheap sikit. Tengok orang. Bodek2 jugak lah kot.

PADANG LALANG

Okay now moving on to Padang Lalang. I don't have much time so I have to be really quick. It consist of 4 buildings, 2 for the law and tesl boys, one for the tesl girls and one for the classes. There are 5 classes. Now one of the perks of being a student in UiTM Kuantan is the fact that class korang dekat bawah je. Like you can wake up at 7:50 for an 8am class. Kalau class malam pakai your pyjamas (tutup mana yang patot lah of course) but pergi class. Like pakai je seluar tido tu. its awesome!

Kalau dekat Palang you guys kalau nak makan ada this thing call the Arked. Tempat makan yang idk. Jarang pergi. But okay lah kot. Roti canai and roti bakar dia okay je. But tu tempat lepak. Have a cuppa or if you wanna go for a smoke or something. Ni dinner sume bagai. Its not the cleanest place but its edible. Idk, tu orang cakap but selama I eat there, tak pernah lah kena food poisoning. Anyway its a great place. Banyak jugak lah choice makanan. And across the street from Arked ada dobby and stuff .Tak ingat. Jarang pergi. 

Mega Mall

So its a mall. Has all the important stuff. Ada popular dekat sini kalau nak carik buku. Ermm, Kenny Rogers, Pizza Hut, loads of restaurant. Mamak ada. Secret Recipe nearby. A lot of clubs too (tak recommend, seriously haha) Ermm ada cinema. But usually movies tunjuk sini limited sikit. before nak tengok movie tu tengok dulu lah nak movie apa and showtime dia online. 

UiTM Kuantan

I've been wanting to post about UiTM Kuantan for ages! Okay so here goes. UiTM Kuantan is a pretty small campus consisting with only the TESL and LAW students. And it is also split into Bukit Sekilau and Padang Lalang.

LAW STUDENTS

Girls: The girl punya hostel dekat Bukit Sekilau. Its a pretty cool place. You guys will live in like a little apartment (thats how I imagined it) and you guys will call it "rumah". So like you know back in asrama punya zaman dulu? Kan selalu cakap "aku nak pergi balik dorm ni" now you guys cakap "aku nak balik rumah aku jap". Okay faham? Awesome!
 There will be 15 girls living dalam satu rumah. Each house ada 3 rooms and in the room ada 2 bunk bed and a single bed. The girls with the bunk bed dapat locker biasa but the girl yang dapat single bed dapat locker kecik. So dekat luar bilik theres a huge space. Theres a study table for each girl by the wall and you guys study, online, maen game whatever dekat situ je. Makan ke, sleepover or baring2 and take a nap usually on the floor. Its pretty cosy. So yeah.
Oh every rumah ada 2 toilet (seat) and 2 showers. So its a pretty good deal I suppose. And theres 2 sink and a large area untuk letak your baldi and shower stuff. Kat belakang ada tempat nak hang your clothes and dekat depan ada balcony where you can lepak and listen to some good old songs or nak bergayut dengan boyfriend ke whatever.

Now I'm warning you, we're not the neatest of the lot. So erm, brace yourself! Hahaha

Guys: Hostel korang dekat Padang Lalang. Its only a good 10min (maybe less) away from Bukit Sekilau. Now recently (time ktorg actually) UiTM Kuantan is under renovation untuk siapkan bangunan baru and the road pon baru and the walls are painted new and whatever. Anyway moving on, most of your classes will be in Bukit Sekilau. So you will have to take the UiTM bus ( you don't have to pay to get on it) but you will have to be on time. Its usually around 7:30, 8:30, :9:30 and .. You get the idea.
So your rooms! Now in Padang Lalang or Palang for short, there are 3 blocks. 2 of the blocks are for the guys. If your block is in the middle you will get a good view of the girls' place. Hey, just saying. Lol. Okay so anyway, you guys kena share bilik with one other person. So 1 room for 2 guys. Theres a toilet in there and a study table and a bunk bed. I don't usually go up in the room but its pretty calm. Being in a house with loads of girls can be a little crowded. So more time for studying for you guys! As if. But hah!

TESL STUDENTS:
Your hostel will be in Padang Lalang, Palang for short. Most of your classes will be in Palang. There are 5 rooms and your classes starts from 8 am and ends at 4.00pm. I don't hang around with the TESL student sangat so I can't help with the TESL stuff. (I spent my remaining hours sleeping or laying around on my bed). So anyway each room ada dua orang and theres a toilet and a study table in there. TESL girls usually get on pretty well with both the TESL and LAW guys coz its a pretty close space and you guys usually akan dinner or lepak or whatever together.

TESL girls dekat Padang Lalang because the TESL students lagi sikit dari LAW students. But there is no rivalry or whatever pelik2 between the students. Everyone usually get on pretty well.

Asasi Undang-Undang UiTM

Asasi UiTM is split into two. PI005 and PI006 (I think). Now PI005 is under UiTM. It basically means asasi UiTM. The other one is asasi KPTM. If you're under UiTM, then after you finish your foundation you will definitely be able to continue your degree in UiTM. If you're in KPTM that mean you can apply in other universities after you finish your foundation.

.Now your aim as budak asasi is to basically make sure you get a Band 4 in MUET and a CGPA of 3.0 or above so that you can continue further in law for degree. So you will basically spend roughly around 9 - 10 months (including term's break!) as a foundation student. For the first sem you will have 7 subjects and 8 subjects in sem 2

Now some basic questions that I've asked myself about exactly a year ago.

Asasi UiTM Law dekat mana je?
Simple enough there are 3 branches. Shah Alam, Kuantan, Merbok


How much yuran nak masuk?
Now you will get allowance every sem. RM1900 to be exact but if you malas nak bayar yuran hostel and yuran sem and all that, biar je. Dorang akan tolak from your allowance so you will only get like RM1200 instead. You don't have to worry about PTPTN or whatever. It really is not a concern at the moment. You get allowance from KPTM and from your parents. Life couldn't get any better than that!


Ada koko and all that tak?
The answer is no. You tak payah nak kawad or run around or whatever. Your job is pretty simple actually, you just study.


Is it hard?
I know that a lot of people say that the course is hard. When you say you're doing law people would be like "wow!". Believe me, its hard if you procrastinate and well, if you're lazy. You just read. READ a lot. If you don't read, you'll end up like me. Just cukup makan. For those people yang ada study time yang awesome macam waktu SPM, keep up and you can pretty much score in foundation coz it is a bit like that. Just don't be lazy. And go to class, don't skip no matter how comfortable your bed is.  Learn from my mistake.

How are the classes like?
The classes are pretty cool. Quick advice though, for those who have smartphones download dictionary and the law dictionary apps in your phone. It will definitely come in handy in class. The lecturers will speak only in English and if they ask you questions and you reply back in Malay they will tell you to speak English. English is important for a law student. The only class in Malay will be CTU which is like agama. It's okay if you're having a bit of trouble speaking the language, just try and practice. Your lessons, books, assignments and lecturers will all be in English. It's better to just give it a go then avoid it

The other kids?
 Well when I first started I was pretty much overwhelmed by all these other kids in my campus. Most of them speak in English and have a pretty darn good English by the way. And one of the more shocking part when I first started is that these people are REALLY into politics. We have this class LAW 016 which is Government & Politics and I was dumbfounded when I see these people voicing out their opinion. I was pretty much astonish at everyone's brilliance at the start.  

What about our clothes?
Monday and Friday is formal. So you will have to wear baju kurung for girls and shirt & tie for the boys. Wednesday is black & white day. So you can wear whatever you want as long as it is in black and white. This is to get the feel of the whole law thing I suppose? But lecturers will tell you off sometimes if you don't wear black and white on Wednesday (I've tried). You can wear whatever you want any other day as long as it is not revealing and eye appealing. For the guys and girls yang tak pakai head scarf, you will have to make sure your shirt has a collar. And shoes, the usual basic stuff. No slippers but you can try wearing that once you know your lecturers. Some will let you off, some will tell you off. It depends. 

Let's talk about the requirements needed.
MUET BAND 4
DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE MUET. In Sem 1 you will have a class call BEL 260 which will basically prepare you for your MUET. MUET is Malaysian University English Test and you will have to take this if you want to continue your study in degree. The diploma student has to take it too so MUET is a must. To further your study in degree in Law, you will need at least a Band 4. Band is like a level. So the lowest band you could get is Band 1 and the best and highest band is Band 6. You're pretty much awesome and cool and awesome if you get a Band 6. It's really rare for a student to get a Band 6 but its not impossible. Try. Even a Band 4 is tough to get. The test consist of speaking, listening, reading and writing. In my opinion, writing is the worst and speaking is the best. Just practice and study hard. It is important to get a band 4 or higher coz a lot of people couldn't go through degree law in UiTM because of MUET.

CGPA 3.0
CGPA is an average grade point. It will add your sem 1 + sem 2 result. Whatever you get in the end will see if you are allowed. Now to be safe, you will need at least 3.5 and above for your CGPA. You will hopefully be safe when you get that 3.5 CGPA because eventhough you did not pass your MUET Band 4, other university like UM or UKM still allow UiTM students with a CGPA of 3.5 and a Band 3 for MUET for the law enrollment. And plus, most scholarship wants people with a CGPA of 3.5 so yeah. Its okay if you didn't get it though. Just make sure its a 3.0 and above.

Keputusan UPU: Asasi Undang-Undang UiTM

 

Okay so as you can see up there, I took a snapshot of what I picked for UPU.  I think this one is my first attempt. Last-last I put Undang-Undang as a first course and for the first choice I put Asasi Undang2 UIAM and the second choice is Asasi Undang2 UiTM and the 3rd and 4th is Asasi TESL in UIAM and UiTM. 

So this is what I ended up getting:

 

I'm guessing it is the same story with you guys? I was totally excited and I was flipped coz I heard at the time that UiTM has one of the best law school in the country. I'm not sure of this but it's a law school all the same. I was in asasi, a pre-degree course so I wasn't technically a law student (this is how I scare myself about the future. If I get too comfortable I won't work hard. See?) So anyway. I automatically thought I got in into UiTM, Shah Alam. But never have I been more wrong. The next day we were suppose to check which UiTM they will chuck us in and I totally got a blow in the head when Kuantan, Pahang is written on it. I guess you really have to expect the unexpected. 

So anyway, being the ungrateful brute that I am, I called my friend and burst into tears coz I didn't get my Shah Alam. Never have I thought I was gonna be in KUANTAN :o But then he told me to calm down and he said I should be grateful coz he didn't even get in. I felt bad after that but I was too cooped up in my own cocoon to care about other people. I got into a tantrum and my parents said the same thing. I should be grateful. And there are reasons why I'm there. It took me a long time to calm myself down. But hey, in my defence, I've never been away from home. Like a 5 hour freaking drive away. And eventhough I was in boarding school for 2 years, that doesn't count. I snuggled out and go back home like every week. So anyway yeah.
